It is official...(drum roll please) starting in August I will be a bobcat. That's right, I got a job. Like a real job, not a postdoctoral fellowship, not working in the lab of someone else, but yes still pushing flies around. I was hired as assistant professor of biological science in the Molecular Cell Biology department at Quinnipiac University. It is about a 15 minute drive and has a beautiful campus (see below). I will be mostly teaching masters students but will have my own small lab too. We are very excited and now we have to start shopping for another car since we will both be driving. Any suggestions? I'm thinking a Prius but they are a little pricey. Okay must run. I'm including a picture of Topher in his lab too!
I am so happy you spelled that out for me. I just wasn't getting it. So pretty! Just like the UPS of the NE? Right? or something. It wouldn't be Lani life without pushing flies. I am so happy for you, though. My only car advice...get it used! As if you didn't know that. Bex will walk tomorrow, or at least this weekend. I know it.
ReplyDeletewoo hoo! go bobcats! i think the yale sweatshirt should still make an appearance tho.... just sayin'
ReplyDeleteand don't go prius. i love 'em, but not kidding, i see them all the time!!! stand out just a little! how about a ford escape hybrid? if you go with the mercury, it's literally the same car for half the price. check it out. i know you may not want an suv, but given that you will be driving in snow, maybe something a little bigger?
and here's a hint for everyone who reads these comments... when you want to buy, i highly recommend carsdirect.com. it's amazing. great deals on new cars, with no bargaining. you just have to know exactly what you want, what model, what color, what options, etc. i'm telling you, it's worth it!
Lani,
ReplyDeleteLittle did you know that you were following a family tradition. Your dad and I are bobcats, too--at least that was our mascot at Montana State. I'm so proud of you.

Meow! Go Bobcats! Congrats, Professor Lani!!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's so great! Congrats over and over!!
ReplyDeleteBill says they (Q) are famous for their polls - very cool, and sure to be in the new soon.
Right after Bill's car got stolen, we were considering the Ford Fiesta, Fusion (hybrid), and the Mazda 3 (maybe for you a 6). They may be a little on the small size for you, but the new Fiestas and Mazdas are supposed to be able to get 40 mpg on the highway - without the extra cost of the hybrid! Pretty good. Then we got his car back . . . siggghhh.

Wow! Busy busy busy! And good for you!!
ReplyDeleteRe: Car. I know you're not an old fart like me who after 50 years can't drive anything but four on the floor tiny-car stick shift, but my advice is to get something as close to what your drive now as possible.
It's just easier and safer to not have to make major adjustments in operational stuff or judging size considerations (for parking, staying in your lane, etc.), especially in unfamiliar territory and with Bex-baby aboard. Also easier when "trading cars" with the hubby.
