moolah
Bex found Topher's piggy bank. He loves to grab it and shake it until the bottom spills open and coins go everywhere. Today he figured out that he can put them back in. Only about one in ten goes in his mouth and we have to abort the whole thing. Here is a movie of this. The best part is the that piggy bank says, "I'm savin' up for some good weed!" Inappropriate for a one year old?

The Bex Bite
When we went to pick up Bex tonight from day care we were informed that there was an "incident" which included Bex being bitten by another kid!! It just doesn't seem fair because Bex can't fight back with his one half of one tooth. Alas, the "incident report" is hilarious. It is below and my favorite part is "equipment involved"which just states: Teeth. He did in fact have a pretty awesome bite mark on his left arm which I tried to take a picture of but it didn't turn out great. This is the second incident report- the first one was that he tripped over his croc shoes and landed face first on a toy truck- giving him a pretty great little shiner on the eye. I'm hoping that this all just goes with the territory of running around the room like a crazy person.

Hell of a weekend
We had one hell of a weekend. It was really amazing. We got up early on Friday morning and drove to Woods Hole, MA (which is on cape cod). I spent a science summer there a few years ago and it was the first time that I had been back. I had forgotten how great it is. It is a VERY small town, super kid friendly, and full of science dorks. I got to see both my PhD advisor and my postdoc advisor because they are teaching summer classes there. My postdoc advisor took a few of us sailing (sans Bex) and we hung out with good friends that I haven't seen in a long time. It was like a real summer vacation with beach time and lots of relaxation. We stayed there until Sunday morning and then headed back to New Haven (only a three hour drive!) and Uncle Carlos and Auntie Betsy came to visit from SF. Betsy actually grew up in New Haven and at one point lived only a few blocks from our apartment. They were at her brother's wedding and stopped for a night with us before heading back to SF. We are so lucky to have gotten to see so many friends in one weekend. Here are a few pics from Woods Hole and with C + B.

doctor doctor
Bex had his one year doctor's appointment. He weighed in at 22.5 pounds and nearly 31inches long. The doctor was shocked at how much he had grown. When I asked if that was normal he responded with "it must be normal for him." He is doing great and starting to really understand what we are telling him. It is really fun because I can just tell him to go do something and off he goes. My particular favorite things (besides having him throw away his diaper) are having him go show dad something, use his giant wooden spoon to stir his puffs, and point to my nose (which he then grabs very excitedly). At the doctor he had to get THREE shots and his blood drawn. It is confirmed that he is the best baby in the world because he cried for approximately 30 seconds and then smiled and waved goodbye to the people a minute later. We were very impressed with him. Here are some pictures of him in the car after the appointment. Check out his little arm where he got his blood drawn.

Happy father's day to all you dads!
Happy happy father's day to all the dads out there. We had a great weekend with bike rides (Bex is still ridiculously cute in his helmet), a summer festival downtown in New Haven, a petting zoo at a local farm, and a hike up East Rock park near our house. Here are a few pics from our very eventful weekend....

birthday continues
Bex has had a wonderful first birthday with cards and emails and presents galore!! He really has no idea how lucky he is. He is loving his quilt from aunt Kory and the wooden blocks and pusher from Grandma. He got books from auntie Mary and his first football from auntie Kat. He has also been loving opening the presents and eating the wrapping paper and packing peanuts. He is a little behind on his thank you notes but he told me to tell EVERYONE out there in the blog-o-sphere THANK YOU!! Here are a few snaps of him opening presents from his auntie Mary and auntie Kat, which had particularly amazing packing jobs!
